Hey Guys,
My friend's kid has a 04' Raptor 50. It runs pretty good, but when he opens it up, it cuts out like it's hitting the rev limiter. Do these things have a govenor? Have looked on the carb but don't see one. Also it does'nt seem as peppy as it should, that's why we thought it might have a govenor. Thanks fro any help.

When I bought my daughters raptor 80 it was doing the same thing. Hers had a restrictor plate in the air box covering approx. 90% of the air filter. I don't even know how the bike ran with it in but, I yanked that dude out and the bike really came alive. I don't know if the 50 has one or not but I would suspect it does.

the CDI is rev limited and the carb and throttle mechanism have limits. there was an air box restrictor on my sons 80 but not on the 50. if your interested in Raptor 50 performance mods see the topics "Raptor 50 Slide", "CDI Box on a Raptor 50" and "04-05 Yamaha Raptor 50" in this forum. (good reading on the Raptor 50).

exhaust restrictor ? none as far as I know. you can check out one of the many Yamaha OEM parts sites to look thru the parts lists to determine if there are any other restrictors. I quickly looked through www.worldofcycles.com Yamaha parts under Raptor 50 and Raptor 80 (EXHAUST and FRONT FENDER) and the only thing I see is the air box restrictor for the 80. no restrictors for the 50.

Our 04 Raptor 50 does that too. We are selling ours to get a bigger quad rather than putting money into mods. The 50's really are beginner quads... Not really made to rip.
