I have a 2001 500 HO sportsman. Just wondering if I am the only one out there who still uses only synthetic streight 40 in the engine? Are there any others out there that use just a regular 40 weight oil? That synthetic stuff is getting rather pricy.

 

stick w/ the synthic oil as it came w/ this oil for a reason. use either mobil one or amsoil if you dont want to buy the expensive polaris oil.

 

Sten, what are you guys paying for 0w40 oil?

I get polaris in gallons for $29.99. Thats about $7.50 a quart.

Mobil 0w40 at walmart is about the same at $6.99 here.

 

All three are about the same around here. Amsoil and Polaris about 7.50 and Mobil is about 5-6.00. $20 worth of oil with a $8-10 filter once or twice a year is pretty cheap maintenance for a $7000 machine. Definitely don't use a straight 40W oil in an overhead cam machine. The oil will take a lot longer to get to the top end.
