slip-on pipe for scrambler 500
#1
What are some good slip-on pipes for a 2002 Scrambler 500 4x4? I don't want to change jetting, or do anything besides put the pipe on. My scrambler is 100% stock and I want more sound and some low/mid range power gain, without spending a ton of cash. Thanks.

If you don't want to get anymore involved than just adding the slip-on, save your money. A muffler alone won't do much for the 500's. Clutching is where 90% of the performance is gained.

Please excuse my ignorance... When you make changes to the clutch, aren't you affecting overall reliability? If not engine reliability, possibly clutch reliability? Do you recommend any certain clutch kits? What about a pipe and clutch kit? Now we're talking big $$$...

No clutch kits won't affect engine reliability, & they actually help clutch longevity by reducing belt slipping & excessive heat build up.
HPD & Hot Seat are the two major players in the Polaris clutching area, but Erlandson is in the mix too. Personally I'd stick with Hot Seat or HPD.
A clutch kit is generally about $160-190. This is complete. Weights, springs, & new helix. So, yes a clutch kit & pipe combo would be in excess of $400+

Thanks for the info. I'll probably look in to a clutch first then. At some point I'm sure I'll want a pipe too. Would you recommend matching the brand of pipe to the brand of clutch? Thanks.

With the 4 stroke Scramblers, it's not important to use the same manufacturer for clutch kits and exhausts. Aaen Performance makes a nice slip on. White Bros. is a very good slip on, but they don't seem to make them any more. You can still find them used. FMF has a slip on as well. You may want to talk to Rick Ritter at RcR. He sells most brands and is super on customer support. Don't bother emailing him, just call him.

Thanks for all the info.
One more question... I know that in time I will get both a pipe and clutch kit for my Scrambler 500. Does it make sense to get one or the other first? Thanks.
