420 Rancher chattering from front end?
#1
I noticed my new 4x4 420 with 30 miles on it has a chattering sound coming from the front end , more noticabe as speed increases, definately noticable. If you ease the 4x4 lever back while moving the sound stops, never makes the sound in 4x4. Is this something that will go away with breakin or have I got a problem?

Since you apparently have two identical new machines you are in the unique position of being able to compare the offending chatter in the front end of the one against the other which I assume does not have this noise. I know mine doesn't chatter, but it's your ear. You mention easing the 4x4 lever while moving makes the noise go away; the owners manual says to be at a complete stop whenever engaging and disengaging 4x4. If you've been doing it on the fly, I would haul it back to the dealer to have them check it out on warranty just to be sure you're not in the early stages of some sort of damage. Good Luck sorting it out.

mine would chatter slightly too when i put it in 2wd and drove it, after coming from 4wd........
i stopped to change the selector, like the manual says to do...
..but anyway, after about 50 miles or so, i never heard it again..

Sounds like just a break-in issue then, kinda like the occasional backfire some of us are getting when engine breaking hard when the machine is still very new ... that's another topic happening at "Rancher 420 Backfires".
