Default Timberwolf Ticking

What seems to be the top end of my Timberwolf is ticking. Valves are set properly.
Timing chain seems really tight and adjuster seems to be working.
Its not exhaust as I checked the pipe and put a new gasket on it.

What are some of the things that can make a motor like this tick and how do you diagnose?
I have the crankcase half off right now and everything looks normal. Had the clutch cover side off and everything seems fine there as well. If you turn it over by hand you can't hear anything.

Any input on 4 stroke ticking diagnostics greatly appreciated.

How bad? I assume it's bad if you tore it down. Is it blowing oil? Is the compression good? Is timing on?

I have a 96, that I have run the snot out of. I adjust the valves and it runs like a top, but.........it ticks like the valves need adjusting. checked timing chain and tensioner, valves, compression. It does not burn/blow oil. I've just lived with it the past two years. But mine is minor, like a valve tapping. Good luck.

Thats exactly what mine is like. Runs fine, doesn't smoke etc. Just that tapping sound. Its definately louder then my other 4 strokes. It does quiet down a little when driving versus at idle.

Sounds to me as if someone dropped a watch into the oil pan on the last oil change. I heard those things make quite the ticking sound.
