Default Oil leak

Has anyone else had trouble with their oil resivior drain plug leaking? I've tried new washers and teflon tape and just can't find a fix to the dripping. Any ideas?

I'm pretty sure the drain plug isn't sealing good enough. What else can I do besides the new washers which haven't worked?

If you want to fix it for good, buy a used one off a 2001 or older (ebay). I have a 2001 and a 2003 scrambler. The 01 has a metal tank and does not leak at all. I have tried everything on my 03 and it still leaks.

Stop at Napa Auto Parts or anywhere that sells sealing washers. They are brass with a rubber inner ring that will seal the threads very nicely. I used one when I had a fuel tank leak on my Honda Goldwing's drain plug. If it work on gas, it will work on oil. They come in various sizes, so make sure you get the size that most closely matches your drain plug. The bolt should "thread" into the rubber ring of the washer in order for it to work well.

Good luck.

Hey MNScrambler, you are waisting your time with tephlon tape, dope, and washers. I have the same problem with my 03 500 sportsman. If you look at where the drain plug threads into tank you will see it has a brass insert. The insert along with plastic tank have splines and the insert is pressed in. When you over tighten the drain plug the insert turns and strippes the splines from plastic tank, and that is why it leeks. The only thing you can do is replace the tank, or put up with the drip like I do. New tank is around $150. but a drain pan is much cheaper.

Well, that's a bummer. I wondered if it was going to be something like that. Thanks.
