yamoto 200cc no spark and other problems
#1
hi, i've read some other posts on this topic but can't seem to solve my problem. i have changed the plug for known working ones and also the coil but still no spark. i was wondering how to test the stator with a digital voltometer/ammeter/ohmeter i have... thought i found a topic on this but can't locate it now.
another point is that i notice that the newer chinese quads are coming with front disc brakes. has anyone thought about converting their quad from front drum to disc and is it even possible??
finally i just want to know if anyone can identify this engine:

i can't seem to find an oil cooled suzuki 300cc engine that matches. the seller claims it's a ds300??? not to sure.
sorry for all this, thought it would be better to put this into one topic rather open several. any help appreciated, Paul.

Hi Paul,Don't know if this will help , but i also had a no spark problem with my Komoto 250cc .I checked the ignition coil connector and it was loose , Replaced it with a new one but did'nt help. After that i took the seat off and down on the left hand side in between the frame and carb , There are 2 main electrical connectors. After i jiggled them around , The atv started right up ,but then died again.Upon futher inspection come to find out the main wiring connectors were'nt connected tightly.Reason being was because the manufacturer placed the 2 connectors side by side,Rather than facing each other.Be sure the clip snaps into place ,Since i've done this i have'nt had a single problem with stalling or not restarting.Hope this will help ya.

cheers for the info plugguy,
i did have a look at those as once before i took off the stator cover to fix the electric start clutch and then forgot to replace a chunky green connector that was coming straight off the stator coil. it's now doing the same thing, i turn it over and no spark, then as soon as i release the starter there is a small spark. must be some sort of electrical build up. i will look at these again as all i did this time was jiggle them about a bit.
can you embelish on how they were facing the wrong way? do you mean the pins inside were installed in such a way as to cause a poor circuit? it was running then i left it idle to warm up and on my return is when this whole problem manifested itself. I'm at uni at the moment and will only be able to tool over it in a month so i will get more info on here about it. but cheers for taking the time to reply and i will give those connections some more attention.
also thanks smb05 for replying, i agree the engine does look like dr250, i tried to find a dr300 but get very sketchy returns on google and can't be sure if that's mistypes or what. looking to fix this yamoto and sell it on and replace it with a chinese one with a jap engine as i've no complaints with the frames on these for the field riding i do, just this engine has given two significant bothers in a short time. i do have a chinese crosser with a zongshen engine. that's never missed a beat, and despite having a heavy frame the suspension is alarmingly good, i think spares and backup is the main driver for me though.
