Challenged by an Arctic cat 700 to a drag..???
#1
A friend of a friend has a 06 Arctic Cat 700 and we were talking today and he was invited to go riding with us this weekend. Now he has challenged me to a drag cause both of our quads are "700" models. How do you guys think I will far? We are racing twice first 150ft and then 300ft. I know my quad has tons of low end but I'm not sure how I will far on the top end. I'm pretty big and it seems to slow the quad down in the higher RPM's. I'm 6'3 350lbs and he is 5'11 230lbs. Add that to the fact that my quad is heavier to start and that adds up to a pretty big weight disadvantge. I'm not sure what kinda power his quad makes, its bone stock I know that. The only thing I know is, we have bothed raced my friends scrambler 500 at different times and I know I pull about a length off the line on the scrammy and hold it to around 45mph were he starts pulling me and my friend said he raced the arctic cat and was handle bar to handle bar before they had to let off the gas. I raced him on gravle and the cat raced him on a paved road. The race we are having will be on a paved road.. I have a feeling I might win the 150ft but will lose the 300ft due to the weight difference.. any thoughts?
I forgot to add, This guys brother is also going to be there with a Can-am Outander 500.. Can-am is making some power with there quads, I might end up racing him as well. He has a aftermarket pipe.

The arctic cat is listed at 715 lbs dry weight.......not too much lighter than the 700 sporty..... I might actually worry about the can am more than the kitty....
One thing I would definately look into is a heelclicker clutch kit. It is an easy install with hand tools, great tech support---go to atvquadsquad.com and get ahold of COB. He wont steer you wrong. I think the price is $176.50 shipped but is due to go up soon. It is supposed to really wake up the 700's. Then dont tell your buddies what you did...... he he he
I did the heelclicker on my 800 with out ever touching my clutch before and coulnt belive how simple it was. Even if you do have any problems, cob will help you out.......even over the phone.

I would say this would be a close race, however I think the polaris 700 would win. The wright ups that I have read about the suzuki 700efi is that is is slower on the bottom end. Now on a longer race, he might real you in, however, I don't know how Arctic Cat has the gearing.

Thanks for the input guys, I had a feeling I might pull him on the bottom and win the 150ft race but he would pull me top end and win the 300ft race.
On a side note, I talked to him and told he I also wanted to also race him in the dirt (more like gravle mixed with really fine sand) he agreed.

Just wanted to give everyone an update on the race, It kinda went as I thought. the 150ft race (really short) I got him by half a length off the line and held it and then in the 300ft race it was the same result off the line but he reeled me in and took me by about half a quad length at 300ft. Then we did a top end run just for fun, we marked it at around 700ft. He put about 2 legnths on me and my speedo said about 60mph. Then my buddy hopped on my bike (he wieghs 170lbs compared to me at 350lbs) and He put 2 lengths on the 700 cat and he said the speedo was around 65mph. So the weight is making the difference. Lose by 2 with me on it or win by 2 without me on it. Either way its a 4 length swing and about 5 mph. Pretty Big diffrence. The shocker of the day was my buddys scrammy 500. I have beaten him many times in the past, he just got a new UNI Air filter and for some reason he is putting lengths on me off he line and top end, did that new air flter livin that quad up that much?
Also, the Can-am did not show up, so I have no results for that race.
Just thought I would pass along the news.
