Default Dead Sunl 110

Hello,

Let me first say that I have now learned my lesson on these cheap Chinese ATVs. Look like such a deal and then they just don't run.

Here's the problem: When I push the button to start the quad all I'm getting is a buzzing sound from the solenoid. I replaced the solenoid already. Have checked and replaced both fuses, don't have the kill switch on the handlebar activated.

I am stumped on what is wrong with this quad other than it was made that way. My kids are really wanting to ride in the yard and I'm very close to looking for an LT-80 or something on the used market. I will never buy non-brand name again.

Anyone with any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Matt

How strong is the battery? The buzzing solenoid might be caused by a weak battery.

Do you have a rider or something else small and 12v you can jump it with?

Hi there,

I am not an expert by any means, but I had a similar problem after I rolled my daughter's chinese quad. I bet the starter is toast. However, mine was making a click from the solenoid when I pressed the starter button. At first, I thought it was the solenoid, but when I tried to bypass the solenoid, it still wouldn't crank. I knew the battery was good because it would start my other quad no problem. Finally, I noticed when I jiggled around the starter when pushing the button, it would crank a little. So, I realized the starter was dead. I got a new starter and now that problem is fixed (new starter was only $22.50)...

So, I'd look at the starter if I were you. Maybe try to bypass the solenoid and see if the starter engages or not (put a heavy gauge wire between two prongs on solenoid to bypass it while pushing the starter).

As for cheap chinese quads, they serve a purpose. I mean, you probably got the thing for like $700 or something. Replacement parts are super cheap and the kids will grow out of the little quad in a couple years anyway. Obviously, an LT80 would be much superiour, but your going to have to pay for it and your child will outgrow it quickly. If you have, say, 3 or more kids and you are buying for the older one, then getting a japanese quad would make sense because you just pass it down to the younger child as the older one outgrows it.

Later,

OffRoadNoob

If jumping it does not help...try this.

Take a dead blow hammer and hit it sharply (the starter) but withing reason. It could be froze and this may free it...it also may free the brushes if they are pushed back.

OffRoadNoob: I've got 3 kids (8,6,3) so I figure that if I were to buy an LT80 or a Polaris 90 or some such kids ATV maybe a couple of years used for around $1200 and it was reliable and ran with regular maintance until the youngest was around 12 years old, I would be way ahead of the game as far as the SUNL goes.

So far as the Sunl goes, I've tried to bypass the solenoid and it still won't crank. I have the battery charger hooked up to it while I'm trying to start it. The problem happened last fall when I was trying to start it and I think I cranked it way too long and may have froze the starter.

The other problems that I have had with this quad: motor mount bolts fell out and I had to fabricate a new mount, chain fell off and the rear axle carrier had to be adjusted, fuel filter plugged within first two tanks of gas and the exhaust bolts backed out and the exhaust was loose at the motor.

Like I said earlier, I just don't think that these Chinese quads are worth the trouble. I'm going to order a new starter and see if that solves the problem. If not I'll probably take it back to where I bought it and see if they can solve the problem. After that I'll probably be looking for a good used Suzuki or Polaris quad.

I'm really getting tired of the kids wanting to know when they can get out on their ATV.

I've tried everything that has been suggested and still nothing. I just pulled the starter off the atv and after I put it back together from checking the brushes, it spins freely. So I figured that I would hook it back up to the solenoid outside of the quad and see if it would spin. Same thing as when it is attached.

Maybe I need to go buy a new battery. It could be so dead that even with the jump start hooked up it is not flowing enough juice.

Any suggestions about what else I could try?

Thanks,
Matt

The batteries on the Chinese quads don't last long and seem to go bad quickly. If you have an Interstate Battery store near you, they carry a replacement battery that will fit. Bring your old battery in with you.
