help1999 polaris scrambler 500 4x4 no constant spark

Default help1999 polaris scrambler 500 4x4 no constant spark

i have a 1999 polaris scrambler 500 4x4 and it would not start so i checked it and it is not gettin constant spark if you try starting it it sparks a third of the time it should but sometimes it will spark ok for a sec and almost start i thought it might be in the starting button but it didnt helpwhen i cl;eaned it ,and everytime i let off the stater button it will spark

the only thing the starter button does is turn on the starter not the ignition system,the killswitch could be the problem or even the ignition coil/stator or pulse coil.i would bypass kill switch first and work your way to the harder stuff,might need the manual to get schematic to see how killswitch works,usually just unplugging them bypasses but im not sure

check to make sure the plug wire is in the coil good and the plug cap is good as well. i would doubt the switches are bad some of the time but you could check it i guess. just an idear for ya.

check the rubber boot that fits over the plug. unscrew the cap/boot from the coil wire and snip just about a 1/4" inch from it at both ends.............................................. ....from coil end and boot end.................................the wire gets corroded at these ends and will cause misfires that you are experiencing............................it will probably be something very simple........................corroded ground...........................
