MY son who has been riding four wheelers since he was six. Now he is 14 and been wants to get a honda trx 450r. He is 5'7 180 pounds. Do you think he will be able to handle the four wheeler.

Yeah, if he is mature enought to not do anything stupid. They come pretty corked up stock, so I say leave it stock for a long while until he has mastered it, then maybe later when he is ready for more power you can do an HRC kit, etc. The powerband has a hit in the middle (kind of like a Bahshee), and if you aren't use to it you can get into trouble.....
Keep in mind that this is a whole new generation of engine! These aren't our fathers engines, in fact they weren't even our engines 5 years ago. This engine requires diligent maintenance, like frequent oil changes, high quality oil, and valve adjustments. If even a little dirt gets by the air filter, it will toast the valves. Why you need frequent oil changes: http://www.belray.com/scripts/future...1-64a4cf6d0144
If he is the kind that neglects maintenance, he will be way better off an a bulletproof 400EX!

....also, keep in mind that this machine likes to rev, and it is geared tall. Mine is geared down one tooth in front, yet it still will go 25 mph idling in 1st gear.
My point is that well this is a superb trail quad frame, the engine isn't all that well suited to tight trail riding. So, if you ride mostly in fairly open country, the 450 is a great choice. If you are technical woods trail riders, again the 400EX is a better choice.

Yes he could handle it if he knows what he's doing. But you didn't really say what kind of terrain he will be riding. If he is going to be riding in the open and racing a bit then get the 450r. If trail riding get the 400ex, it still has plenty of speed and power.
