Default And the winner is........

Those following along on my 730 blow by problem. I got the results back from Chuck at CG performance this afternoon. Great news its not terminal. The cyclinder checked out within .5mm and NOT out of round its in great shape. The piston is also in perfect shape and good to go.

The cause was a couple of things, the oil ring gaps were close to being lined up together (could have been my fault during install those things are a b!tch to get in and may have turned trying to get them in) Second they were gapped at .030 (done by hpr). The combo of the two caused the loss of compression and alot of blow by.

Im totally releived but now I have the problem getting the right rings, head and base gasket. I have a .027 cometic layng around here that I got as a spare from KMS (aka Kant Mechanic fer ****) Randall told me last year that it wouldnt work. What gasket thickness should I get .040? can I get a thicker base gasket and still use the .027? If so what should it be? I called JE about the rings, evidently they are hpr's design so I may or may not be able to get them. I need a part # for them also.

Thanks to all that helped me out on this with your ideas and advise. Hope to have it up and running asap.

Fantastic Keith!

I have a brand new set of rings for the old style HPR 14-1 if you can find out if they will fit the newer piston. I bought them for my wifes machine and never installed them. I can hook you up for a cool million.

If you can find that out and want them, let me know.

And to be honest, I never once thought for a second the cylinder was out of round. It's not that its impossible to have happen, just really close.
