I have an 03 Big Bear 4x4 that is not getting any spark. I know the plug and coil is good, cause I have an '01 Big Bear 4x2, and swapped them out, and everything checked out. However, I could not check the CDI Box cause the connecters were different.

I checked the voltage coming into the coil on both machines and this is what I got. The '01 4x2 is reading 24volts coming into the coil(seems strange maybe I am looking at the wrong line) and the '03 4x4 that doesn't spark is reading 12 volts coming into the coil. Even if I am reading my voltmeter wrong, the reading is exactly half. These readings are with the key turned on, NOT while cranking the engine.

Anyone out there have any clues as to what my problem could be? Please let me know.

ya I had the same problem on my 00 big bear a couple years back. It was the CDI. Cost to replace 200 to 300 depends on what kind. good luck

 

Thanks for the reply. I am pretty sure it is the CDI. My Dad has the same ATV down in south TX. I am sending my CDI down to him so he can plug it in to his Big Bear and see if he gets the same problem. If he does, I guess I'm gonna have to buy a new one.

It seems like the parts that go out the most on these four wheelers are the most expensive to replace!

 

Well, my Dad tried the CDI in his Big BEar and it ran fine. Now I don't know where to go. Does anyone have a wiring diagram for a 2003 Big Bear 4x4 they can email to me? I hate to buy the whole manual just for the wiring diagram.

Does anyone have any idea what it could be? I have checked for broken wires and bad connections and can't find any.

My brother had this up at his house in Arkansas when the problem started. It was running fine, he parked it down by the barn for about a month, went to start it up and the battery was dead. He tried to jump start it with his truck, and it never started.
Could trying to jump start it have caused the problem? If so, what would the problem be if not the4 coil, plug, or CDI?

Please Help!!!
