Well first off, what's wrong with your Shee? You can get those things up to 110 hp (granted that is the SPEED aspect, you can't ride 110 hp bikes on trails) and you can keep them nicely set up for trails if you want too.
Your basic options IMO are
- a 450r (I would wait for the DS to come out in I believe it is August) The DS is to have an MSRP of 7300, and most other 450s are in that price range too. You could also look into a used one.
- a Raptor 700. They are great bikes from what I have seen and read up on them. They, new, are MSRPed at about 7300 as well. Again, you could always look into used bikes.
-A utility quad. This is all personal preference. If you wanted to, you could get some of these utilities up over 80 miles an hour with no work at all.

You're not going to have a "beat all comers" atv without getting one of the big bores or a 450. And none of those are going to be 6500 bucks MSRP but you might be able to get a good deal on a leftover or a great deal on a current model and stay under that price, but you'll still be awfully close to it.
The z400 is an excellent trail bike. It's not the fastest but it handles well, is pretty reliable, and still has plenty of power to get just about anyone into trouble. MSRP is just under 6k I believe and they can usually be purchased for significantly less than MSRP in many areas. This would still leave you a few bucks for modifications to the bike, whether protection like skids and nerfs or performance like a pipe and filter.
As was mentioned there's also the possibility of hopping up your banshee. 2k into suspension and 2k into the engine and you'll have a very capable bike but it'll still be more demanding to ride over long distances than a well-rounded four stroke would be.
