Default '03 700 Carb (Dial-a-Jet, or new carb)

I've hardly used my machine since I bought it new. After about six months of owning it I recieved a factory recall letter about a recalibration of my carb for improved cold weather starting.

Since I've had that done, my machine has never ran perfect. I was running pretty lean and back firing, I re-jetted it and have been messing with it since. I never ride it enough to really notice the difference, but after the memorial day weekend and driving 900 miles round trip I'm about ready to trade it off.

I live at about 3000 feet, occassionally will take it to the Hills (6,000 feet), but once a year go down to about 1500 feet. I know nothing will be perfect, but could someone please let me know a baseline carb setting for 3,000 feet?

Don't even know what jets I have in there now. I'd rather not fork over the money for a new carb, but any recommendations, or should I look into a dial a jet carb?

Thanks for any help, I'm no mehanic, but can scrape by.

I would maybe try a dynojet kit, they have them on the highlifter website. They are around $50 and have pretty detailed instructions on install and setup.
