ITP Mud lite tire
#1
Has anyone replaced there Wolverine tires with an ITP Mud lite tire? I'm looking for a tire that will ride better over rough rocky terrain that won't bounce the Wolverine all over the place like the OEM maxxis tires do. Ideally I'd like to find a Radial handling tire that will make the Wolverine a much better handling machine without the chop and bounce over hard rocky terrain.

thats asking alot for any tire, you will get bounced around on rocky trails with any tire really, things you can do to help is adjust you suspention a little softer and let a little more air out(not much) then your tires call for..I use Mudlites on my Wolverine and love them..Some here will tell you others are better..do a forum search on mudlites you will find they are discused alot here..I'm an old dirt-bike rider, when it get rough I just stand on the pegs and let the machine do the work

I used to have Kenda Claws and switched to ITP Trac Stars that made a huge difference in how it rode over rocky terrain. Depending on the construction and rubber compound, one tire may handle rocky terrain much better. That's why I'm interested in hearing from people who can give me an idea of how an ITP Mud Lite rides over bumpy harsh rocky terrain compared to the OEM Maxxis tires that come on a new Wolverine. The Maxxis tires are not very forgiving on hard terrain and I need something that will not bounce like a basketball that will instead absorb the terrain a little better without transferring that energy through the chassis.

Mudlites are a softer rubber and will wear on harsh ground really fast..If you are getting that much bounce in the rear-end,you really should adjust the rebound on the rear shock to make it a little softer..It is a simple job..Plus check the air pressure in the rears..I dont think any tire would make that much of a diff in the way the quad bounces around..

Actually radial tires are made for just that purpose, and the compound the rubber is comprised of has a great deal of how smooth they ride too. The shock isn't really the problem as much as the fact that it's only a single swing arm and not independent. I had Kenda Claws and ITP Holeshots on my 660 Raptor and then used ITP Radial Trac Stars, night and day difference over the rocks, made it much easier to maintain control. The rear shock is already on the softest rebound setting and have the minimum recommended amount of air in them. I might try lowering the air in them down to 4lbs though, not holding my breath on feeling a big improvement.

Mudlites..Like said,I love them..They are a 6ply tire that are much lighter then most others of the same type,I was able to go from 23'' to 25"on the rear and 23 to 24" on the fronts, with no power loss that I have noticed,on my 350 Wolverine..I ride mostly hard pack trails and rocks with bunch of mud in the mix..They are head over heals better then the Dunlop oem's that were on my quad..I have many hours of riding on these tires as of now, with really no wear and chunks taken out from rocks.I like my tires a little more stable and ride them at 9lb psi..I love them,I will buy again for sure..But next time I think I will go to 24" on the back..Just to have the same size as the fronts..Also I think you will need to go to 24" Mudlites,I dont think they make them in 23"..

yes I did actually, but normally Radials should provide a smoother ride. Can anyone tell me if the tires from the old Wolverine ride better than the Maxxis. Besides the rubber compound, the Maxxis have a much more harsh ride because they have very still sidewalls for a little more stability and improved sliding. The old Wolverine couldn't have ridden this bad. The single shock doesn't help, but my 660 Raptor rode much smoother and it wasn't beause of the suspension, it was because of the ITP Trac Stars I replaced my Kenda Klaws with. Radial vs non Radial in that case.

Excellent, I was told you have to replace 4x4 with all the same sizes to maintain the same ratio for the 4wd system? Okay, now here is my big question, do the Mud Lites ride better over the hard rocks and roots than the OEM Dunlop that were on you it? Was there a lot less chop and bounce over hard rocky washed out trails? Oh and according to the advertised list in the magazine, they do have front and rear available in 23"!!
