Default 2006 Sawtooth

I bought a new 2006 Polaris Sawtooth 2 weeks ago. We got it home on the first day and after about 20 minutes of riding it started to run real rough at about 1/4 throttle. I took it back to the dealership the next day and the thought it might have some moisture in the carb due to it sitting on the showroom floor for so long. They drained the carb and changed the spark plug. I got it back home and rode it for about 20 minutes and the same thing happened and it actually died this time and it took quite a while to get it restarted. I took it back to the dealership and they kept it for over a week. They said they changed the main pilot and re-jetted the carb. I got it back home today and is doing the same thing at 1/4 throttle. This atv has less than 2 hours on it. Has anyone else had this problem? What are the odds of getting them to replace the atv?

Well it great to see a post on the Sawtooth, sorry to hear about your luck.......I would check to make sure the gas vent line is not pinched off, and the air is getting to the carb(from airbox).........Does it have a choke on it?......This may well be stuck open a bit causing the engine to stall.......don't give up I really don't think they will replace the ATV, but keep on them until it's fixed and your happy again!!!......keep us posted ......Caper..........

Caper had good suggestions, sounds like a fuel problem for sure. Also check to make sure the gas cap is venting. Next time the bike stalls out, loosen the gas cap so there isn't a tight seal and ride it again.

My Sawtooth is a miserable beast until the engine is fully warmed, then it will run forever. Sounds like yours is the other way around.

In order to properly diagnose what's going on, it helps to know what the plug looks like after the engine stalls. Please let us know.

just remeber guys its still under warranty and he messes w/ it too much they may not warranty it.if it was a carb problem it shouldnt really take 20 minutes to start acting up unless theres dirt in the gas tank which i would doubt. what does it do when it acts up? wondering if its loosing spark, maybe valves not adjusted right and when they get hot and become too tight. assuming this is a 4 stroke. not to familar w/ then. just an idear.

Okay, took the Sawtooth out for a ride today, 75 degrees, no problems like you've described. In checking the gas cap, it appears that the tank isn't vented through the cap, so definitely check the vent line as Caper said.

ADDED:

Good points Stendori. Might just take it back to the dealer and kindly demand that it be fixed properly.

It is a four stroke.

Thanks for all the input. I took it back to the dealer today and they said all 3 sawtooths they have in stock are doing the same thing. Hopefully they will figure it out. I bought a 2007 Trail Boss at the same time and have not had any problems.

I got the sawtooth back from the dealer today. They wrapped the exhaust with header tape because they said the fuel was boiling. They also said that the fuel was running up the frame and this was contributing to the problem because this is a gravity feed fuel system. I rode it for about 20 minutes and it started cutting out at about 1/4 throttle. It runs fine after you get past 1/4 throttle, it does not spit or sputter at all. I am probably going to take it back to the dealer in the morning. This is my wifes atv and she mostly rides at 1/4 throttle. Any thoughts on why it runs rough only in this range? This bike has less than 3 hours on it and this is the 4th time it will be in the shop. Help!!!!

Check the rear differential bolts, they were all loose on mine and one was even missing. My daughter has about 5 hours of use on it. They had to have been loose from the showroom. I'm going to get a new bolt for it tomorrow and change the oil since it had been leaking through the gasket.

I have taken the Sawtooth back to the dealer and the have given me a full refund. They could not figure out why the atv would not run correctly. All the Sawtooths they had in stock were doing the same thing.
