I have a 1985 250ES and it shifts hard through all gears. It's idle is low but each get hits pretty hard. If I pull a trailer on or similar it will jerk in each gear so much to make quit a racket. I have had other 250ES but never this issue unless the idle was high. Is this an indication of clutch disk wear or anything else...besides wore out tranny?

Mine acted like this until I adjusted the clutches. Most of the older trikes I run into or buy have many of the same problems. Clutches worn out, chain never adjusted or lubed, timing chain never adjusted, and especially, oil never changed. I keep the oil changed in mine every 10 hours, and I only use mobile 1 pure synthetic, I added that, new clutches, adjusted the clutch pack, and some stp oil treatment, my 200s went from a hard shift to a smooth shift.
