Question # 1 Will a 400ex run good in the dunes ? What do I have to change for dune riding and then change back for normal trail riding ?

Comment # 1 The stock handgrips are hard as a rock ! What do you guys like for grips ?

There will be more added to this thread. This is just what I have on my mind so far . Remember I got the atv yesterday so I will think of more.

Thanks,
D.

Besides paddle tires, any mod that will increase your horsepower, particularly your low end...even gearing changes.

Will a 400ex do good in the dunes ? How about sealing anything up so sand won't get into it ? I live in Iowa and have never been to the dunes but would love to go someday.
Thanks,
D.

I could tell you don't live in California! Out here, there are lots of folks who never ride anywhere but the dunes, and for the most part nobody does anything special to their machines in terms of "sealing" them for the sand. It just isn't necessary...and I don't think there is much you can do anyway.....

Compared to everything else in the high performance class, the 400EX is underpowered, but it's primary mission is as a trail quad. It does alright in the dunes, but you don't exactly have any China Walls in Iowa anyway....

Don't have any dunes either, just fields . I am planning on going down to Oklahoma to a place called "Little Sahara" . Just needed to know some info. Also, want to hookup with some used paddles and rims to run . Does the EX have a standard bolt pattern founf on other atv's ? If so, what other models or brands will fit ?
Thanks,
D.

Front is 4/144 and rear is 4/110. Kawi and Suzuki use the same pattern. Yamaha is the odd guy and uses a different pattern. Not sure about any of the other manufacturers.

For sand, you want to be ultra light, but if you are going to do jumping etc., not so light that you will bend them.......
