Default oil drain plug (filter screen)

Does anybody know why they put the oil drain plug filter screen in there on these motors.........I had some metal shavings in the bottom of the plug (just from first oil change I hope), but this would had needed to get by the filter screen to get in the drain plug!!!!!!!!!!!

Also the holes in the screen look too big to stop any shavings of metal particale from getting through.....

Any thoughts.......THANKS.......Caper.............

Is the screen just there for when the oil flows???..

Default oil drain plug (filter screen)

the oil drain plug is on the left side of the engine but a lot of people use the bottom filter screen bolt to drain the oil, yeaa it made to just catch the larger particales, changing the oil often during the first few hours is your best bet since these engines don't use a filter
