I was recently at a Polaris dealership looking at the Explorer 400. I'ld asked a salesman how heavy the machine was and he replied that it was about 588 lbs dry. After several other questions I picked up a 2001 catalog and headed out the door. I flipped through the catalog when I got home and noticed the weight stated for this machine was 608 lbs or 276 kgs.

Now, I'm aware that the machine has seen a few changes for 2001 such as braided brake lines, redesigned clutch venting and removal of the handle bar headlight assembly. These changes however should make it lighter not heavier. The only thing I can figure is the the Kg weight was 267 Kgs and is now 276 Kgs and maybe they somehow flipped the last two digits around and impacted the stated weight in pounds. Anybody know? Is this a typo or has the quad gained 20 more pounds by design?

I too wonder where they added the 20 pounds. I understand the differant rotors and braided lines, etc. but, they removed the pod light and speedo and the hardware for it. If you look, the weights of just about all of the quads have increased across the board, by almost the same amount.

Well they're upgrading everything, so maybe they upgraded their scales? Made them more accurate now.

I posted on this a few weeks back. I noticed almost all the quads increased in weight except the Scrambler 400 2X4 (if I remember correctly).
Some just stayed the same though. I was really alarmed to see that the Trailblazer now weighs in around 480 LBS DRY!!! That's an increase of 40 LBS for the poor 250...........
