Spark knock or some call it detonation is caused by 1 or 2 things.
#1 The spark timing is advanced too far and the piston hammers when the flame front lights too early. In other words the pressure tries to push the piston down when the crank it trying to push it up.
#2 Too low of fuel octane will cause the fuel to explode before the the spark lights it off. The same thing will happen to the piston.
Some will split hairs and say preignition is not the same as detonation which is not the same as knocking, yada, yada, yada........the fact is the are all very closely related.
What should you do about it?
"I" think whoever made the call on the knocking is wrong. If your quad has stock compression is is almost impossible to have spark knock with a stock piston and compression.
Easy way to check is buy some supreme gasoline for it and see if it still knocks.
