Raptor 660 dies please help
#1
I have a 2003 Raptor 660 that dies after about 2-3 minutes of riding. Starts up fine and sounds great, just completely shuts off after a few minutes of riding. Parking break off and has new spark plug. It sounds great and runs great and then just dies. It will start right back up but then die before you can get it going a second time. Any advice / help out there?

the tubes on the bottom of the carbs are over flow tubes they dont connect to any thing. the vacume tubes on his carbs theirs one on the right carb it opening is on the top right and connected to the air boot. now the one on the left carb the opening is on the top right same as the rights connected to caseing when you start the quad you will feel pluses of air. when the tube wasnt connected the quad would spit out black smoke and wouldnt idea for more then a few seconds and shut off when i connected it while it was running it stoped smoking and stood on. to check if it wasnt a fluke i took it off and it smoked and shut off. i did it three more times and got the same result.i need to find a pic of the carb and air box myself i looks like a tube connect the boot for the left carb to the air boxs led right now theirs nothing connected that may cause problems down the line.

I've seen this once... worth a try? Pull the back end of your muffler. Had someone who's spark arrester got plugged up with carbon. Would run for a minute or two then shut down. Start back up, same thing.
Removed and cleaned the spark arrestor, voila, good as new.
Might help?

Found the problem. Not enough oil because of an oil leak and when the engine reached to high a temp, it shuts itself off.
I checked the oil before the ride, so it started leaking while riding and probably had less than 1 pint of oil that drained out. The quad was pretty dirty so I didn't notice any oil leaking that day.
It only leaks when the engine is running. So I filled it back up with oil and it runs excellent, just have to fix the oil leak problem now. It's leaking somewhere between the gear shifter and the small chain spocket.
