Default which sprockets should i buy?

its a 2001 400ex. i currently have a 15 tooth front and 39 tooth rear. i was thinking a 13 tooth front and a 38 tooth rear. would that be good or what should i get? if it helps the only mods i have are white brothers silencer, twin air air filter and going to be putting a jet kit in it and possibly a stage 1 hot cam.

depends what you want out of it, alot of low end power go big in the rear. more top end then lower in the rear..

your best bet would be -1 in the front +2 in the rear...

remember each tooth down in the front is the equivelant of +2 in the rear.. so -1/+2 is the same as just up 4 in the rear

i thought it added 3 in the rear if u took one of the front? well i ordered a 14T for the front and keeping the stock rear for now. im looking for more low end. will i have to take a link out of my chain for the new 14t or should it be ok?

I went down one tooth on the front of my EX, and it was way to much! It would stand up and wheelie any time I stabbed the throtle. Great for play riding, but out on the trail it only got me into trouble. Finally decided that on tooth larger in back was a good compromise.

But, front sprockets are cheap so give it a try and see how you like it. You shouldn't have to take a link out, just adjust out the slack.
