Default Modifying a wolverine 450?

Is it really worth it? I'm considering doing a little work to my 06 wolvy because I'm tired of getting smoked by my buddy on his grizzly 700...

I have never modded an engine on a quad before, so I really don't know how much difference the little parts like exhaust, jets, and intakes really make. Will I still get smoked regularly by the grizz if I add a gytr pipe, and after re-jetting?

While stock, I can take my dads foreman 500 without a problem. What are you modded guys able to keep up with? Are my hopes of gaining some good power a little over zealous or do the little bolt on parts make a big differenc?

I have been really thinking about giving my girl my 06 wolvy, retiring her 06 bruin to house work and picking up a renegade 800...I shouldn't have a problem with the grizz with that, but $9300 is awfully expensive just to be a little faster...lol.

You will still get smoked by the grizzly 700 even with a modded wolvy 450. Unless you are on tight trails the grizz has you beat for top speed by a long shot. I would say if you really wanted to be faster get the renegade 800 or something like that.

I never expected to keep up on the top end, Im dead at 52 and his goes around 65...I was just looking for better mid range power. He pulls by me at about 10-15 mph and never stops pulling, I would atleast like to be able to hang with him until 40 or 50.

Im still kicking around the renegade 800, I already have 3 machines and my shed isnt getting any bigger though. I saw the renegade 500 in the 08 lineup in my dirtwheels mag, it looks nice...but I would rather go all out if Im spending that much again.

I would have waited for the renegade 800 if I knew it was coming out when I bought my wolverine (april of 06), but I didnt hear about it until a few months later.

So none of you guys with modded ones have ever lined up against anything so I can compare them?
