Is it ok to use Wal-Mart 2-cycle oil in a blaster or other 2 strokes?
#1
Hi there. I have a question about 2 stroke oil for my blaster and my friends banshee.
I usually would prefer to use Yamalube 2 stroke oil but I dont have any right now so my question is, is wal-mart cheap 2 cycle oil just as good? Will it hurt my 4 wheelers to use the cheaper wal mart stuff in them?
Should I just wait to go 4 wheeling until I can get the good Yamalube stuff or is the cheaper stuff from walmart just as good? I definitely dont want to hurt the 4 wheelers or even take a chance of hurting the engines if the walmart stuff is inferior I will definitely wait until I can get some good Yamalube.
Thanks.

We always used the castrol 2-stroke oil in our gp760 waverunner. It's a 98 model and it still runs great. My bro wants to run it in his banshee and was also wanting the opinion of others. Is the castrol what your wanting to run?

I don't know. It's just hard for me to fork out that much more cash just because it can only be picked up from a dealer or ordered over internet. It it was sold in walmart it would be close to the same price as Castrol. The Castrol has the same certifications as the Yamalube its just not Yamaha brand and its sold in wal-mart which drives their own prices.
I still question it but, as i said before I have a waverunner going on 10 years old that will fire up with hardly any trouble every summer and run like a champ. Never had anything but castrol run through it.

nx02, read your owners manual to find the type and specifications of the oil you need. Compare them to the Wal-mart oil. If it meets or exceeds the required specs, you will be fine running it. The important thing is the specifications, not the brand. Wal-mart doesn't 'make' their own brand oil, they buy from a manufacturer and pay a licensing fee to have their name put on the bottle. All 'store brands' are that way, be it car/truck/motorcycle oil.

I can afford "THIS" sport. How? Knowing how to manage my money which, by your statement you know nothing about. I hope one day I make the kind of money you do so I can just buy things with total disregard to pricing strategy.

LOL, great comeback......... all I was saying is ..if you cant afford the expensive "correct" oil, then you dont need to play the game, or don't cry when you break. I personally don't use manufacture oil at all, but I don't use wally world oil

Sorry I got a little heated.
I understand but, again I use Castrol that is sold at walmart and, certified correctly telling me it is correct for my Waverunner that has been running it for 10 years. Doubt that's what you would run in a 2-stroke atv but, if Castrol has an atv spec'd than I'd use it.
I can see if I was too much of a tight wad to pay the price for the correct oil but, the Castrol meets the specs required.
So to go back to nx02nx02's question. I think we are in agreement that as HeftyLefty said, if it meets the specs your good. From there its a matter of brand preference.
