Polaris dealer won't work on my old quad
#1
I dropped off one of my quads at one of the larger Polaris dealerships in the area to get some minor work done. I was talking with the shop manager and told him I had a '94 300 that needed a top end and asked him how much. He told me that they wouldn't work on anything over 7 years old and that he didn't know anyone that would.
Is this standard practice? It seems that if you pay what some of these new quads are going for, you should expect to be able to get them repaired for a long time. I am an old fart, though, and maybe I'm still living in the dark ages.

I would think that the older quads would be "easy money". Meaning that they should be easier to repair since they have less "bells & whistles". Personally, I like my 95 & 97 bikes because it's so much easier to diagnose & repair.
I suppose the dealers know that they can make more money repairing a bike that's worth 4 grand vs one that only worth 1 grand???

O' and I don't think that it's standard practice for all dealers. I saw a 94 in my local dealers shop the last time I was there picking up parts for mine. Sounds like it's time to take your business elsewhere.

I think is because they always need more than you think.
I repair them as a hobby and I always see more that the customer dose.
So it looks like your building a ticket.
Top end is super easy and can do it yourself for less than 175.00.
I have heard of dealers charging over 700.00.
I dont mind answering any questions you might have.
see my ebay page look up POLARIS REBUILD KIT..
EBAY NAME IS DONTSCAMME!!
Good luck

I work at a Ford dealer and we ALL cringe when we see old cars come in. But even when the bills get outragous, people still pay. Especially for air conditioning. They won't fix their brakes but they'll stay cool

alot of it is that they have a hard time taking apart older stuff from rust, corrosion or what not(been there done that myself for people) and they end up spending too much time or worse breaking parts to get to the real problem. but a real dealer wouldnt walk away from any bussiness as long as they can make money on it.

i had the same prob trying to get a old 2cyl dirt bike running the kawi dealer said they dont work on anything 7 years and older..seems odd to me that they said the same time frame maybe its a factory rule on parts/time ?

on most brands of machines, it's usually 7 - 10 years, its hard to find parts for older things and they don't have the storage to keep a service manual for a 1994 machine, because they have to get a new one pretty much every year for every product they sell. thats a lot of service manuals. Halfast, do you know if any of your friends are capable of doing the job. if so, you can find the parts for it. prolly be cheaper too

My dealer works on older ATVs all the time. A friend of mine has his in there now and his is a 92 I think. Mine is a 95 and he works on mine. A little too much sometimes
