Honda Rincon Top Speed
#1
I was on vacation riding last week and ran into a bunch of hardcore Honda riders which were all riding various types of Rincons. We started chatting and they claimed that a 680 Rincon will do 65 mph right out of the box. I said it would if you dropped it out of the back of an airplane as I had a 2005 Rincon 650 that couldn't get anywhere near the double nickle mark much less 65 mph. I didn't think that a 30cc increase would account for the additional speed either. I don't mind standing corrected if this is indeed the case, but I find it hard to believe as my new Polaris 800 efi will only do around 55 mph. I asked them if anyone had clocked it on the gun but no one had. Can anyone shed some light onto this subject?

Top on a stock 680 should be around 63 by GPS. I think I've had my Forman up around 52 or 53. If your 650 wouldn't even get close to 55, I would think something might have been wrong- Jetting off, making the run at high altitude, tires that are tough to roll, or something...
I really don't care much about top speed, since I like to ride in rough terrain...

I had the 07 Rincon for a year. If I remember correctly, top speed on mine at 3000' was around 65. I now have an 07 Rubicon 500 and top speed on it is around 58. These are speedo readings, probably 3 mph less on a GPS.

My 650 had 26 inch mudlites on it on the c-4 rims. That might have dropped her down 1 or 2 mph. My friend still has it and is going to put some performance mods like a pipe and other things. I have a radar gun and will bring it with me next time we go out to ride. I kind of look at speedos on wheelers like the speedos on sleds. A lot of them out there have the ego factor built right in. I could be wrong but 65 seems awfully fast for the Rincon.

Those sound like realistic numbers to me. One thing that greatly limits top speed and acceleration on ATVs is the fat low pressure tires. If you put regular car tires on your ATV you would see quite a jump in speed, especially if you went bigger tires to give you taller gearing. A friend of mine says Taurus wheels and tires bolt right on.....110mm On 4 Pattern
