I just recieved what I belive to be a 1986 fourtrax 350 from my brother. He told me that it was parked and he went to start it and it was locked up. I brought it home and looked it over. I do not know a thing about this unit. I did discover that I could get it to neutral and I could roll it around. When I place it in forward or reverse or any gear it will not roll forward, it will however roll bacward and apparently turn the engine over.

I do plan to pick up a manual for it but if some people could offer some ideas before that happens I would appritate it.

One fella suspected that the timing chain?, may have broke. would this be located on the right or left side? can I remove the right or left side while the engine is still in the quad? Is there any pictoral like breakdowns that I can look at?

Also the starter has not worked in years so I do not know if it would turn the engine over.

thats what most things with gears do they lock up when they are shut off and in gear but if its started in neutral and put in gear it should be fine other than that im lost

 

Even when the machine is in nuetral the kickstart is locked up and I can not turn the motor over.

 

Then your engine is seized up. Time to tear down.

 

I just took the cover off of the right side. Once I had it off I put a soket on the end of the crank shaft, I could turn the engine over almost 4 turnsand then it comes to a dead stop, then i turn it the other way and again almost four revolutions and it stops. I think it is a valve that is bent? Any body know what size socket I need for the spark plug?

Sounds like either a stuck valve, or a slipped camchain.
