Default hard to shift

Not sure if this is what you mean, but last weekend I was working on my mother-in-laws Yamaha Big Bear. The shift pedal was shifting really stiff, and also the brake pedal. I ended up taking the whole pedal and foot rest off, and pulling them apart. The pivot point for the pedal had an o-ring on each side, but inside the pivot was dry and rusted. I wire brushed it clean and greased it, then put the o-rings back in and put it all back together and it made a world of difference.
