Had my 07 400 outlander in for 100 hr service.Was concerned with a clunk from the drive shaft.Dealer said normal,but this seems very cheap mechanically and for the price i paid ,i thought i was at least getting a Buick instead of a Yugo.When your bombing along and let off the throttle when you give it gas again its like theres too much play somewhere then the clunk,..Any thoughts or related experiences. appreciate it Mike

 

Any ideas anyone? I have the same thing going on with my 2006 outlander 400.

 

I'm not very familiar with the outlander, so I'm reaching here, but if it has an auto tranny (Belt driven), it is possible to make the clutches (Seems more common with the secondary) come in so fast that they slap. It happens on my Polaris every now and again - just like you describe - completely off throttle to full throttle will sometimes give me a thunk. The rear spring might be getting worn. For me, it never happened stock. Once I added a "sport/utility clutch kit" I noticed it. The kit changed the primary clutch weights, primary clutch spring, secondary clutch spring and the helix in the secondary.

Now if your outlander isn't belt driven, then disregard everything I just wrote.

 

hfo5,I have an 04/400 with 1800 miles. There is a little bit of drive train lash at slow speed. If I am at higher rpm's and let off the throttle and slap it again, there is no noticeable lash or clunk. Perhaps you should take the clutch apart, and clean and blow dust and debris out from moving parts.Make sure rollers and weights move freely. If your clutch is on the left side of machine as the 04/400 the primary clutch bolt loosens clockwise, and the secondary loosens counter c/w. In case you dont know the primary is on your left towards front and secondary on right towards rear
