Default 02 magnum 500 - Good buy?

Im looking to buy a 2002 magnum 500 - Do they have any known problems I should watch out for? It has roughly 2000 miles on it, anyone got an estimate of what one in good shape would be worth?

Any info on this model would be helpful. Thanks!

Well I have had a 1999,2000,2001 and 2002 Magnum 500 ATVs. They all were great machines with very little problems. The strong 500 engine along with the straight shaft on there rear makes it one tough atv. However I never ran any of them to 2000 miles so I would check it out a bit.

Hey they are good machines but do plan on a good service job of fluids and filter, brake pads, tie rod ends and a new belt along with replacine the secondary ramp buttons (before you have to)This is all general maintenance on a Polaris.

Secondary ramp buttons? What is that? Also, this quad does a slight grind when shifting into forward sometimes. Is this serious? Thanks!

How much do they want?? Do you know the owner? If it is anything over $1800-$2000 range I would walk. With some looking you should be able to find a 99-02 Polaris 400-500 atv in that $2500-$3000 range with a lot lower miles. I look at Craig's list everyday and they pop-up all the time.

The ramp buttons are in the secondary clutch and are a wear item. The grinding is most likely the bell crank on top the tranny stripped or loose no big deal to fix but if that isnt it the shift forks could be worn.

Here in Minnesota craigslist... Magnum 500's, 01-02's, they're going for $3000-3500, miles 1500+/-. Seems a little high but our used market will get that. Not sure how the market is where your at though. I certainly wouldn't walk away from a 02 magnum if it's not under $1800-$2000?? Anything under $2800 I would think is a good deal, $2800-3000 a fair deal.
