Default Changing the Demand Drive fluid in an '07 Hawkeye

I changed the fluid in the front drive unit tonight. Not too happy! First, not much came out. Maybe a cup full if that. It was dark...understandable...but there was ALOT of black crap stuck to the drain plug magnet. Can that be considered normal, kinda concerns me. It has about 32 hours on it, and around 300 miles. It has NEVER shown any signs of a leak, and it took alittle less than 1/2 the quart bottle to refill it. I haven't used the AWD very often either, good thing huh?

I also changed out the transmission oil. It appeared to be "normal" in color, a gray color, and in the amount that drained out.

Anyone else changed these fluids, if so what did you find?

do you have the owners manual for this bike? the demand drive only takes 5 oz of oil. you put wat to much in by the sounds. the trans. takes 20.3 oz of oil. this is from the manual of an 07' the black crap you have on the end is metal that normaly comes off during break in. its a magnet to attrack it. as long as therres no chucks of metal.

I filled it to the bottom of the threaded hole. I've got a manual and I think it said 8oz. of fluid. I might be off a little on the almost 1/2 quart thing, but it took much more to fill it than came out.

Yeah I knew it was a magnet, but man was it covered with crap. No chunks of metal, but maybe Polaris should clean out their gearcases better before putting them together. I mean the crap was almost 1/8 to 1/4" long built up on the magnet.

I could see the ring gear teeth through the fill hole, there did not appear to be any abnormal wear on them. So I guess we'll see how it goes. Seeing how my warranty is now up.

As I recall, the fluid on my Hawkeye and Sportsman didn't look too good at the initial change, which I did at 25 hours on both. Upon doing the Sportsman a second time after 50 hours, the fluid still appeared fresh and new. So I'm thinking that the initial fluid change will produce this crap like Stendori said, during break-in.
