is it reving up like normal or is it bogging? mine wont wheelie like it did when new because of all the weight i added w/ the acces. i put opn. just a thought.

seems to bog a little at first. clutch seems to fully engaged about 1700 rpm. havn't added any accesoriers, but is delux with winch and bumper, would wheelie until you let off gas.

that engagment is high. it should be engaging around 1350 rpms. unless you smoked the belt somehow i would doubt it would be any clutch issues. you didnt get water/mud in the housing causing slippage did you? does it bog in neutral as well. the air box/filter is clean and the air duck isnt plugged? just a couple of idears.

machine has been to shop 11 times for warranty repairs for this problem. last time new belt and most importantly pulleys aligned. I've expiremented with springs and wieghts but still not performing like it used to. I suspect if clutch engaged at 1350 rpm it would fall on its face. problem has been there almost since new, very frustrating. I'm wondering now about not enough ignition timeing advance. just a guess. I tried a stiffer primary spring, but almost no change in performance. yes, maybe a little slugish in nuetral also, not sure. thanks for input.

This is just a thought but it could be from carbon build up in the combustion chamber and or gunk in the carburator , or it could be time to check the valve clearance ; these are just a few thing's that come mind ! Here's something i would try before takeing it into the shop again and it's not a lot of money to spend to try it get a can of Seafoam follow the instruction's on the back of the can for mixing it with gasoline and pouring it into your gas tank , if you've never put any gas treatment in your fuel system before i would double the amount of Seafoam to fuel ratio ; after a tank or two topped off with reguluar 87 octane fuel you should see a difference in how it run's if this the is a case of carbon buidup in the combustion chamber ! Seafoam is a fuel cleaner/ stabilizer with a water drying agent that will clean the entire fuel system and it will also clean the combustion chamber of built up carbon deposit's as well ! You can get the Seafoam from most Auto Parts Stores like Auto Zone , Advance Auto Parts Stores i got my last can from O'Reillys Auto Parts Store for $5.99 + tax it had gone up a dollar since i got the last can , just like the gas prices keep going up and down ; but it doesn't stay down long before it goes back up and my luck was the last time i filled up my tank a few day's latter it dropped down 30 cent's a gallon but by the next fillup it will probally be back up again so i'll just keep the tank topped off untill then ! I've worked over 20 yrs in the Small Engine Service and Repair Industy and i've used alot of fuel treatment product's over the year's like Stabil fuel stabilizer to name just one to keep gas from going bad in gas jug's and when winterizing small engine's on lawn and garden equipment during the off season and it worked great for what it was made for it's safe to use in 2 or 4 stroke engines both gasoline and deisel fuel as well ! But the Seafoam is the best fuel treatment product i have ever used and it can be used for 2 and 4 stroke's also gas and deisel fuel to , like stated above it not only clean's the fuel system and clean's the combustion chamber of built up carbon deposit's that gum's up the valve's and can cause the ring's to stick ; i've seen gasoline engine's that were running bad and smoking from sitting up for over a year that after running them through a tank of fuel treated with Seafoam they would start running smooth and smokeless like new again ! I don't know that much about the belt driven chutch system's on the polaris atv's , i've only worked on one that a friend of mind sunk in a pond on his farm when he was drunk ;while he was showing me how he would unload feed an hay for the cow's and horses he and his family owned and a few he stable's for other people on his farm ! He had the front and rear rack's loaded with feed and hay He was tying to feed the cow's and horses that day when he backed up to drop the load of feed and hay loaded on the rear rack for the cow's next to a small pond in the pasture , he would always hit the throddle so hard the feed an hay would dump itself without having to get off the quad to unload it by hand ; but this time he forgot he was still in reverse instead of forward gear when he hit the throddle so hard that before he knew it he was half way across the pond and up to his neck in pond water that was almost the funniest thing i had ever seen i just wish i had a camcorder to get it on film it would take first place on that tv show funniest video's for sure ! The pond wasn't that deep if he wasn't so drunk and kept the throddle wide open he would've made it to the other side and onto dry land on the other side of the pond , or if he had taken the time off to let me snorkle the the quad like he kelp telling me he wanted me to do it for over a year he would tell me we will do it tomorrow ; everytime i went to get used and new part's for my truck or the car's and truck's for my brother's and friiend's when i was working on them ! He would ask me to hang around till closing time to pick up his Polaris at the farm and take it to my shop and do the snorkle job i kelp telling him about ! But he was alway's so busy running his truck and trailer service and his salvage yard or making run's with the rollback's or wreaker service that he would say the next time you'er over this way we will go to the farm or i will bring it to work with me and ill get the guy's to load it on your truck so you can take it with you , and do a complete service and tune up while i was doing the snorkling job ; but before i had the chanch to do the job he had let selveral of the guy's who worked at the salvage yard for him work on it ; when he finally called me one day to come over to the salvage yard to pick up the quad ! When i got there it was close to closing time and he didn't have it there it was still at the farm , and when he locked up the shop he told me to follow him to the farm and he would get the guy's to load it onto my truck ; when we got to the farm ! As soon as the guy's got there he told them to get the quad and load it up on my truck , they started bringing part after part out to the truck then when they rolled the chassis out i asked them what was going on with all the part's ; the owner told me that he had let 3 or 4 guy's try to fix it for him ! When they got everything on the truck and i got to the house i got 3 of my brother's to unload it and put everthing in my shop , the next day i went out to check it out there where so many part's missing there wasn't anything i could do but call him and ask him where the rest off the part's were ; he ask me what was missing i told him i would have to call him back with the list ! There were over half the ignition part's missing and the ignition part's that were on the quad were automotive part's that someone had put on it and wouldn't work on an atv ! The CDI was missing and the coil they had on the quad was for a car also the the switch was off an international truck , and i told him i would need a good O.E.M. shop manual just to find out what all was missing ; he said he had a manual and he would have someone bring it to me A.S.A.P. that was over a month later ; after i got an estiment on the part's that were missing and the one's that ithought might be bad the total was over $3,000.00 just for the part's alone ! He had given me $100.00 to start with but when i got the part's Estiment he told me to just keep the quad and the advance money for my trouble , and he told me he knew a guy that had been trying to trade him a newer model sportsman 500 4x4 for some old car and the part's to get it running ; i offered to return the quad and some of the advance money back to him but he told me not to worry about it and just keep it for my trouble ! A few month's later he called me and told me he had rounded up all the missing original part's he told me they had been scattered a peice here and a peice there at 4 different houses that he was renting out to the guy's who worked for him , and i could come over to the shop and pick them up when i got the chanch to get over that way ; i went over to pck them up that same day because i was afraid they would get lost in the wreaking yard if i waited just one day ! And as soon as i got there they put them on my truck and i took them home to check them out ! It took me 3 day's to check all the part's to see what was bad and had to be replaced , after i got it back together the only part i had to replace was the coil wire ; just the wire from the coil to the spark plug boot ! It cost me $5.00 + tax from my local Arctic Cat Dealership to repair the polaris it was a 1993 Sportsman 500 4x4 , i called the owner after i got everything back together and i told him i would bring it back to him ; and that my labor would be $250.00 - the advance money for the job ! But he said he had already given it to me and that he didn't want it back he ask me if i thought he was an indian giver and he said he had already traded an old car and some part's to fix the car to some guy for a 2001 Polaris Sportsman 500 4x4 that only had 15 miles and 1 hour on it ! He ask me how much a 2001 Sportsman 500 4x4 with only 15 miles and 1 hour on it was worth , i told him i didn't have a clue what they cost when they where new because i didn't know anyone personally who owned a Polaris and that i had rode with a cousin that had barrowed one from one of his friend's that looked like new ; but i didn't even know what year or model it was much less how much it cost but that it was probally more than i had in my old 86' Honda TRX 350 Foreman 4x4 when it was new ! He told me he didn't have over $50.00 in the car and part's he traded for the 2001 model Sportsman 500 4x4 , and told me to keep the old 93' for myself or sell it or whatever i desided to do with it he didn't care ; he told me we would go riding when he got some free time ; that was over 2 yrs later when he finally got free and called me and asked me where i wanted to go riding and that it didn't matter where or when i was ready to go to just call him when ever i was ready to go ! He told me that he had closed the salvage yard and he was only running the rollback's and wreaker service from now on ! And that he had serveral of the guy's who were working at the salvage yard to handle the rollback's and wreaker's and the farm work for him when ever he wanted some time off ! It was about 2 week later that we went over to the mountain's i like to ride the best , and after one day's ride on the mountain's in murray county ga. ; it was a very long day's ride and when we got done for the day and back to the parking lot he told me that he didn't like the mountain riding and from now on if i wanted to ride with him i would have to come over to his farm ! He called me a few month's later to tell me he burn't his brake's up on the ride down the mountain's and it cost over $200.00 for new pad's from a Polaris Dealer in TN. , i told him he should've called me and i could've gotten the pad's for less than half that price from my AC Dealer and i would've put them on for free ; but he said no problem he just didn't want to do anymore mountain riding with me or anybody for that matter he had to ride the brake's to much on the mountain's and he almost slid off the trail that had a dropoff of over a 1000 feet to the nearest tree that shook him up even though he was drinking at the time ! I sold the 93' sportsman a few month's later for $3000.00 cash to a guy who lived near me he saw it before and after i fixed it and got everthing back together , it was in very good shape when i sold it ; and the guy who bought it still has it he only use's it to pull a bush hog and a finishing mower he has a lawn and garden service and say's it's perfect for the work he does better that an old small garden tractor he was using ! Oh sorry for the long reply i got kind of carried away on this post about the Polaris ! Good luck with your quad , and i hope the Seafoam does the job for you it's a very good product ; i would've liked to have bought some shares of stock from the company that makes this stuff ! Good luck with your quad and i hope you don't have to take it to a Dealer that charges you an arm and a leg to get it runnig right again ! .......................
