I have a 2000 kodiak 400 4x4 that I am fixing for a friend. He was riding it with his son in his yard when he said it started spitting and sputtering. He said he was riding it very gentle. I have checked the spark plug (its new) no probs with carb. I ohmed out the coil and it had 0.4 resistance. Any ideas on how to check timing or the cdi for proper opps. I know enough to bring the piston to top of stroke but I don't know where timing marks are on magneto. Or if I am way off any info would be great. Oh the reason I think timing, is cause when I crank it I don't hear any firing and then all of a sudden BANG like a shotgun and thats all it does. I am going to pull the magneto off and check the half moon key to make sure it hasn't sheared but other than that, any help would be appreciated.

 

Nevermind got it going, it was the moon key or (shear pin) just as I thought, gave me a chance to time it too. Friend is tickled to death. I told him to sell it and buy a sport quad like my z-400 or my new OUTLAW 525le it is scary fasttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt!!!!!!!! !!!
