Brand new, ready to buy!! HELP!!

Hey, guys.... I'm new to the forum, and I'm about to join the ATV world and needed some advice first.
I gotta neighbor that wants to sell a Polaris Scrambler, he says 1996 or 1997... fully crated racing engine and transmission, only 26 hours on both, and all the gear I could need. It has a 1600 rpm rev limitor, custom exhaust, custom brush guard, new shocks, the whole bit.. the only thing wrong is the rear brake pedal needs a new bushing, but the front brake that works all four wheels is perfect. He started it up, rode a few wheelies, and showed me how fast this thing was. I got on it and I was impressed, but then again, I don't know squat about 'em at all!!...
so my question is, what is this thing worth??

A Scrambler that old would be worth around $2000 in good cond. As for mods they are expensive but sometimes don't mean squat, to the right guy looking for this exact machine it will be worth more. All that really matters is that you are happy with what you pay.

thanks guys... I really appreciate the input. Actually, the guy wants to trade it for a paintjob on his harley. I quoted him 850.00 for the paint before he offered the quad, so I wasn't sure if I was coming out ok. I'm not sure about the rev limiter either, I"ll have to find out about that.
Do you think a custom paintjob on the quad might increase the value?
