2004 Raptor running HOT HOT HOT!!! help?
#1
my raptor is running super hot and i just bought it used. I have a decent history of working on cars etc so I know how to turn a wrench but this is my first fourwheeler so I dont know jack about them so Im turning to you guys for help. I took it out the first night I had it and noticed it got hot within minutes of starting it. real hot. After awhile the exhaust header got glowing hot. Thats when I decided to put it up.
All I know is that it has plenty of coolant and the cooling fans are in fact working. Beyond that, I dont know what to check. Can anyone lend me some knowledge?? what could cause this and where should I start?

take the cap off, start the quad, let it idle and just tap the gas, see if coolant"spashes" out, i say to do this to see if the pump is pushing any water.. your pump may not be working, or fubar, just be careful.
is the fan kicking on?

The first thing your going to have to figure out if the coolant is getting hot or the engine exhaust is getting hot. These are two different things entirely
A down and dirty test is when you take it out and ride it, pull the choke on about 1/4 of the way. Does the pipe still get super hot?

Every 450 and 700 I've rode seems like it runs too hot. If it has an after market header expect it to glow bright red. I don't have experience with stock exhaust on one but I wouldn't be surprised if it glows a little also.
