Default 500 efi valve adjustment

hey guys,

my motor makes a faint ticking noise when given gas. the tick is very very faint, however i hear it so it gets on my nerves.

is this normal? the bike has only 6 hrs on it. (easy hours at that)

if it needs done, im going to adjust the valves myself, because I dont trust the techs at the dealership. is it a pain to do? i dont own a service manual. i guess ill invest n one..

all repliess greatly appreciated

I would say it's probably normal. Both my SP and my Scrambler both made some ticking noise both from the engine and the primary clutch. You'll get used to it.

Afternoon badazz400
Adjusting the valves ain't no biggie, Just remember to adjust the front two at the same time with the same feeler gage. You don't have to pull the gas tank like the book says, I believe the only hard one to get at is the left top. But you can use a setup like
this to get at it. Pull the seat, both side panels and your good to go.

Yes. In order to get to the tank, the front cab has to come off. This is a fun job....NOT!! Getting to the valve cover is the hard part. Doing the actual valve adjustment is easy and quick.

I wouldn't do it just because you hear a slight tick though. My 500 makes noise, they all do. Polaris is not the brand to buy if these slight noises are going to bother you. They are the noisiest brand by far. I ride with a group of guys with almost every brand represented, and none of them have the racket that the Polaris does.

As least yours doesn't make noise like my new 800 does....LOL!!

Good luck.
