Any Ideas for batteries? PC545's doubled in price!
#1
Well I have been a big fan of the pc545 for a couple years after the stock POS batteries kept dying on my 03. I have a 730 now and had a pc545 in there but its starting to die on me now! I went to start it after not being started for awhile (not on the battery tender) and it was totally dead. I left it on the charger for 6 hours and it wouldnt crank... rehooked it up and let it charge over night and it cranked pretty well. I was able to ride for 3-4 hours starting/stopping about 15 times. I stuck it in the truck to take it home and it was dead (45 mins of not running).
The last pc 545 I bought was about 80 shipped (the one before that was 70 shipped). I searched ebay/ sunn batteries and quite a few places on google and EVERY place has it priced at 112.88 (some free shipping).
Does anybody know if there is another battery option? Or where to find the pc545 for the old price? I guess after selling a ton of them for the DS world and Harley owners they decided to up the price
I dont want to drop 120 on a damn battery! (this is the 5th battery ive purchased for 2 ds' over the last 4 years!)

Hard to believe that they went up that much. I paid $80 shipped for my last one also. Have you tried contacting Hawker? I had one develop an internal short, they sent me a brand new one, same shorting problem, sent me another and it's been flawless since last summer. Two year warranty and they do honor it with minimal hassle.
A Little Cheaper!

Summit is now 112 as well. Thanks for the ebay link to the 99/free shipping ace, must have missed that one.
I just sent odyssey an email pleading for warranty help, so hopefully they are willing to assist me! If not I guess I will have to bite the bullet and drop the Benjamin on a dang battery!
*cough* money pit! *cough*

I dont have access to the battery, the main label on the top? Does that cover something vital?

Hmmm an interesting thing to note... I was just on the odyssey site looking for a dealer near me (no such luck). and read the battery faq's and info. Apparently a deeply discharged odyssey battery cannot be fully recharged with a trickle charger. My quad sat for nearly 4 months without a trickle charger on it (was worried about fire hazard) so maybe its possible the battery is still ok, just not nearly charged enough.
I had it on the trickle charger for about 12 hours and it cranked right up and was ok. I rode 3-4 hours starting/stopping 10-15 times and each time it had seemed like it cranked it relatively easily. The truck ride home (about an hour) it was totally dead. Maybe I need to try an actual battery charger to get it up to voltage. The site said trickle chargers (such as the battery tender which is what I use) will only bring it to a certain level, requiring the alternator (or stator in my case) to recharge the battery.
That makes sense but at the same time I assume my stator is in decent shape (or is it?) and would charge the battery up...but then again maybe it only did it enough to let me restart every 20-30 minutes!?!?
sorry I know thats confusing as hell... hopefully it just needs a good charge! I guess I'll see what my email to odyssey gets me.

Some piece of information for everyone also. The company making them did not plan on the demand for them for this year and did not purchase enough of something that they use to make them. So the supply is low and the demand is still high. What I have heard is that at the end of this year and the early part of next they will be more prepared and I think the price may come back down some.....

Yes it covers some safety blow off valve or something along those lines. I had one pc545 insantly stop working because of that...luckily the company i got it from managed to get me another under the warrenty. Now i just tape the hell out of the top there so it wont happen again.
