Quad always ran fine, all of a sudden, it has a dull sound to the motor, won't rev out , kinda bogs, but not into adead bog, but like no power bog, was thinkin maybe the fuel pump, anyone ever have one go bad, do they just die, or is this a symptom. The only thing that happened weird lately is abt. a month ago I had a lot of water in my tank, just died. Drained it all out, drained the carb, been fine evr since , now this., any suggestions?

Fuel pumps on carb models don't go bad very often in my experience(seen one or two so far since they came out) Question. You had water in the fuel. Where did it come from? Contaminated fuel or the machine went for a swim?

The fuel was contaminated, when I drained it into a spaghetti saude jar it had abt. 2" of water, I have used itin the rain with no problems. I drained it again today for the hell of it and low and behold water, not as much but water, so I fille dit with fresh gas and a bottle of dry gas, same symptoms, could the water have damaged the fuel pump, maybe that has some, or maybe it's time to pull the carb and totally clean that too, although I did drain it.

Dont pull the carb yet. I would drain the tank completely. Then look inside and see if there are "drops" of liquid in the bottom. If so, it's probably more water. I would then drain the carb into a jar or pan. Take a rag and wire tie it to a hanger or something and get all the water out of the tank that you can. Fill it with fresh fuel, put the fuel valve on reserve and let fuel drain through the carb into your jar. If you let the jar sit a while the fuel and water will separate and you will be able to see it. Give that a try and see how it runs. If you got water in the jar, keep doing that till you don't. I bet you still have water in it.

Still having problems, some water when draining tank, but that should kill the motor, only bogs when yo ureally give it gas, the it bogs and pops. Anyone make a fuel pump rebuil for these? Maybe I should remove the tank and wash it out good?

Water will kill the motor. When you give it a lot of throttle it starts pulling fuel out of the main jet circuit. Well water is heavier than fuel and will end up submerging the main jet. Thats why it can idle, but not rap up. I have had machines come in that went swimming in the river for hours(literally, tumbling downstream, no rider) I drain it, swab it with a shop towell(not a rag, usually they don't soak up water very well) drain the carb till no more water is present. Done. I doubt you need to pull the tank. You can if you want to though.

Where are you getting your fuel from? An above ground tank maybe? Is it possible the fuel you are buying is still contaminated?

mtmxtreme800 the best way to get the water out of a gas tank is to remove the tank , pour ot the bad fuel and use acetone to wash out the tank ; acetone will dry out the tank faster than anything !

Just pour some in the tank and shake it around , pour out the access and let it air dry ; it shouldn't take 5 minutes or less before putting it back together and your done with the tank !

You can do the same with the carb if it isn't gummed up , then after you put it back together mix some fresh gas with Sea Foam fuel cleaner/stabilizer to mix with your gas ; it will clean the fuel system and the combustion chamber of carbon deposits and keep your fuel fresh longer !

I still use Staybil fuel treatment when storing lawn and garden equipment from season to season , to keep the fuel system and combustion chamber from gumming up mostly because i had a case leftover after closing my shop in late 99' ; and it's still a good product for what it does !..........

My thoughts on the exhaust cam lobe. I have seen it before first hand.

Well it could need just a simple valve adjustment , but i've never seen a cam lobe are valve's that needed an adjustment make water appear in the fuel tank like magic ; how do you explain the presence of water inside the gas tank and carburator with a bad
cam exhaust lobe or even the intake cam lobe and a bad exhaust cam lobe ! Water doesn't come from the cam or valve's needing an asjustment , water has to come from some sourse other than those given ; getting water inside the fuel tank from contaminated fuel either from a gas jug or gas pump ; or getting it swamped left out in the rain with a gas cap with the vent tube hose off ! Are someone's putting water in your tank , anytime water is present in the fuel tank it had to get there someway other than valve's or cam lobe's ; sorry but i just don't buy that story ! ...........
