Winch brake when using a Swisher Dump Bucket
#1
Hi Folks,
I see a few people here have the Swisher Dump Buckets so I'm wondering if I need to get a mechanical brake on my Warn 2500lbs winch. I have a 800 Outy Max XT so I've already had to buy extra parts for the special a-arm mounts and an extension for the Max 2up portion so the last thing I want to do is to buy another part for the winch before I even take the unit out of the box!! I know that you can use a pulley block to lessen the load but have you actually put a brake on the winch to prevent it from collapsing. I see a few articles of the Gorilla winches failing and I'm wondering if it's related to a lack of brake. Thanks!

I don't have the Swisher system but after looking at it I would suggest getting the extra brake. Where you already have the winch though you might just try it first. You can always add the brake later if needed.

I have the Swisher Bucket and quickly purchased a brake for my Warn 2.5 after setting it up. It was hard on the winch and switch because the bucket would lower everytime it had a load on it. In my opinion, all winches should come with a brake already installed.
