Wow a fellow DS'r Ripped me off!

Ok so here is the deal... I had a few DS parts on ebay a couple months back. One of the items that didnt sell was a good condition starter motor from an 01. I received an email from a woman who said her friend really needed it and she would give me 100 for it. I figured its just taking up space so sure ill sell it for 100 to help them out. She said I could ship directly to him via USPS with COD, or do it UPS COD and use the company she works for account number. Either method was to be next day air.
I went with UPS as I didnt want to have to figure in shipping into the USPS COD. I dropped the package off with UPS and told them 3 stipulations:
COD for 100
Next Day Air
Must be shipped via a UPS account number.
The guy at the counter said it would take a special form, pulled it out and filled it out for me. He had me sign, and that was it. I have used COD's in the past and know they take some time to get the money (2weeks or more) so i just figured it would show up whenever. In the mean time I moved down to school (about 2 hours south of my hometown). A month went by and i remembered I hadnt received any money yet!
I checked the tracking number and it showed it was delivered september 04, and was signed for. I figured hmm thats odd so I called UPS. They said that shipment did NOT have COD on it (and there is no way it COULD have been added onto with that shipment). I told my story and basically they said your out of luck (really nice, huh?)
I have tried emailing and calling both parties I have numbers for. The woman now does not answer (after telling me the money was sent...) and the womans friend who previously had been helping me out now is not answering my calls! He said he gave her cash for a money order to pay for the part. I believed him up until now, as he is no longer answering my calls.
I have now started calling this womans work and talking to her boss (owner of the A/C - Heating business) and he states she is in charge of all shipment and is the secretary. I told him she was using his ups account number for personal shipments and was not being honest and did not pay for a part i sent her.
Long story short it looks like im getting screwed... I have called all 5 numbers constantly and nobody answers anymore. Even the work phone no longer answers unless she is on lunch or not working, and then the same business owner guy just says he will have her call me.
I am really pissed that this is happening. Its not a huge deal, but hey 100 bucks is money to a college student!
I do have this companies UPS account number and was considering sending a box full of bricks somewhere with the account number.
Does anybody have any ideas for me? I want to either get my money or get some payback on them...
P.S. this is fullbright heating and air conditioning in warrenton Georgia (about an hour from Atlanta).
any help/ideas are appreciated!
Mike

Roost,
Im sorry you had that issue. I've learned the hard way ...... money upfront. No money, no shipment .... PERIOD! If they whine, walk away! Thats your first clue that your policy was right. If they dont whine then that tells you something else.
I dont have any ideas for you, other then I've been in a similar situation. I've learned to get money upfront (PayPal) on everything, ship everything insured, and get the shipping info to the buyer ASAP so they know you shipped it.
Also, I have learned that a person's title, what they ride, and who they associate with, means nothing when it comes to trust in a business relationship. I could tell you stories that would curl your toes.
The other side of the coin .... when you have good transactions over a long period of time, keep a mental note of who you've done business with that have worked well. Those are the ones you can trust.
Good luck man!

I would contact the heating company tell them what this woman has been doing with their ups account number and possibly out of good faith will reimburse you the 100.00 and they can get a new account number and cancel the old one. then you both win.
sounds like what I would try
good luck

Sorry that this has happened to you. This used to be a small tight knit community but seems like no longer. Been invaded by thugs, punks, and generally people with what seems like no consciencce at all. Hopefully it all works out for you in the long run.
I wish dbeck would return our avatar blocks to their original state that showed where we were from. Seems to have some bearing on things nowadays and it would make business decisions easier. Hate to go here again but Southern Hospitality is now just a figment of our generations imagination. These younger folks have now deemed it Dirty South for a reason.
Just remember, you have us and Karma on your side. They will get theirs eventually.

Ya well i thought I was A-OK with doing the COD (no way she could have touched the package without giving the UPS guy a Money Order).
Ya i think im going to keep calling the owner of the company and hopefully he can get his employee to move on this... Every time ive called he just has this "I dont care" attitude which really sucks!

Dude that sucks..... If I were you, I would just simply turn it over to collections (if you have enough info and proof a side from the phone call). Get half your cash is better then none, and let then do the foot work.

I filed a fraud claim today with the FBI (forget the actual name of the new web fraud site) but anyway its filed and I plan to let the owner of the business know!
And LMAO @ 270... lol ya i figured out that if I send a 10 pound 1 foot cube box next day air to California that it would cost 150 dollars and some change

Well, this is dishonest of the lady, and considering what she does for a living, she probably set you up knowing she would get the part from her usual UPS guy without having to pay the COD.
For the company she works for, it's unfortunate for them that she used their account in this manner, but it is not really their fault.
If I were you, I would probably be tempted to calculate what weight would cost $100 to ship from you to them with a note.
But that's punishing the company unfairly... even though the charge might come out of her check... LOL...
But in the end, I would be squarely pizzed off at UPS because when you filled out to send the package, they are the ones who set you up for a screwing..... or they are the ones covering there ***** for not collecting the COD. One is about as likely as the other.
