Default 97 400 2-Stroke - Cooling System Check

I have a 97 Polaris Sport 400L, liquid cooled 2-stroke. It had been sitting a while before I purchased it. I had to go through it and fix some things, one of which is wiring. I still don't have the lights working and I'm not sure if the cooling system is working. With the cooling system being more important, how do I test it? I have never seen the electric fan on, so it has me concerned. When should it come on?

Thanks!

it would have to be hot before the fan would kick on and if it didnt it would over heat spitting the coolant out the tank. just check to see if the hoses are both getting warm(becareful will burn when hot) to make sure the coolant is circulating. not sure on the old ones, but if you unhook the sensor on the new ones the fan will kick right on.

If you want to maunally turn the fan on that model needs to have the wires jumped across on the sensor in the radiator. That doesn't test the sensor, but will test the rest of the system. Stendori is right with what he said, run it and if it starts blowing anti-freeze out you have an issue. There should be a hot light sensor on the right rear of the cylider head. Just unplug it and ground it and the light should come on.

Make sure your radiator is <u>full</u>, jump the wires on the sensor in the top of the radiator, see if the fan turns on. Pull the wire on the hot light sensor and see if the hot light comes on. If not, figure those out before you ride it. If they both function correctly everything is ok, electrically, except for possibly the fan switch(the one you bypassed the wires) If they both function correctly, ride it, see if the fan comes on. If it does, great. If not, see if the hot light comes on. If it does, shut it off, you may have a bad fan switch.

Thanks everyone. That is what I was looking for. I've already went out and rode it and never had a hint of overheating, but that doesn't mean it wasn't close. I will check these things out and see what I find. Hopefully, all was good.
