Default Suzuki QuadSport 230

Hi everyone this is my first post! I just recently got a Quadsport 230 and I can't get it to start. I checked the spark and its strong. I sprayed starting fluid directly into the cylinder and I got nothing. ( I know you probably shouldn't use starting fluid on 2-strokes but I just wanted to see if it would kick over) I am thinking that it might be the compression and I wanted to know what the compression should be on those quads so I can test it.

Thanks in advance, Nate

Which machine do you have? The 230 is a fourstroke, the 250 quadracers were 2 strokes. True, starter fluid tends to be hard on the 2 strokes, but used within reason and sparingly I have not had an issue. The bigger thing is fixing the issue. If you have spark, and it still wouldn't start with the fluid, I would suspect poor compression. Wouldn't hurt to try a different plug also, weak or strong spark can be hard to determine with eyes alone.

Well it has a Yamaha engine in it. Did Suzuki's use Yamaha engines in the quad sport 230? How can I tell if its a 2 stroke or not? I heard you can tell by the carb.

No, the 230 is a 4 stroke Suzuki engine. Maybe you have a Yamaha Blaster. That had a 200cc 2 stroke although big bore kits are popular for them and can get it to at least 240cc. Easiest way on an atv will be the exhaust pipe. 4 stroke head pipes are smaller diameter and are generally the same or only get a little bigger from the cylinder to the silencer. 2 stroke pipes will have a noticeable bulge shortly after the cylinder, then shrink way down before the silencer.

Otherwise you have some kind of hybrid, hopefully not a hack job. Why not google some blasters and 230 quadsports and see what looks like your machine?

Its a Suzuki quadsport 230 that's what the plastics say at least but it gas a Yamaha engine with a tag that says 15a-101639. I can't find any info on the motor and no other numbers on it. It has the throttle on top of the carb which I read means its a 2 stroke. I just need to know info on the engine and the fuel mix ratio if any.

Do you mean the cable enters the top of the carb? 4 strokes can have that configuration also, the stock quadsport carb does. The slide is at the top of every carb I can think of too.

If it has a Yam engine it is either a special, or a Yamaha. Stickers on the plastics mean didley squat. Four strokes have rocker covers (except side valves), two strokes don't. The carb mounts onto the cylinder or crankcase on a two stroke, it mounts onto the head on a four stroke (again, except for side valves).
