Default oil grade to use on my vinson

I'm wondering what oil to use for my initial 200km oil change. it's getting colder so I was thinking the 5W-30 but I doubt I'll put the 2000 km on over the winter for another oil change back to 10W-40, what do you guys do? The coldest I can see it running in would be about -15C maybe -20C. Also will regular synthetic car motor oil be fine? I believe it meets the requirements listed in the manual.

thanks

Car oil isn't a good idea, use synthetic for motorcycles. Car oil has lubricants in it that can make clutches slip. Make sure what you buy meets manual specs. Run the 5w-30 until it gets very hot outside or you start running the bike hard. ATV engines work harder to make power than both motorcycles and cars, so regular oil changes are important.

Don't forget to check your antifreeze if your bike is water cooled.
