I am considering getting a 250 Explorer soon and I was hoping to get a little info. How does it do gas mileage wise? Is it a gas hog? What differences are there between the 2000 and the 2001? I have heard there were significant changes and was wondering if a 2000 model for $300-$400 less was a good deal or if it was wiser to go with the updated 2001. What is your opinion of this model in general? Does it hold up well? Anyhelp or opinions are greatly appreciated!

The only change I know of is the stainless steel brake lines, better heat treated pads/disks,and improved steering geometry.

fuel mileage is very good.. mine has been very reliable.. and is very torquey for a 250 2 stroke.. THe new steering geometry "easy steer" there is a noticable difference, the 2000 is not hard to steer but the 2001 is alil easier..It is a very capable machine it is hard to beat for the money..

thx

We have 2-2000 250 explorers we bought in march of 2000. They are nice machines. Plenty of power for a 250. They handle well and you can keep up with a lot of the bigger machines in the woods with them. So far no problems with either of ours except the reverse over-ride button needed to be cleaned out with some wd-40.

I have a 2000 Xplorer 250 (4x4) and love it especially with the RCR Stage 1 Perf Kit I just installed. The power before was nice but now its great!!! I have had few problems since July 2000 when I bought it. One is when riding in snow, if you shut off and sometimes the motor will turn over but not fire. THis happened twice. What seemed to fix was turning off the kill switch and back on. Maybe moisture from the snow cause it? I saw this also this year on a Sportsmen, too.

One thing about Polaris in general is the awesome TRUE 4WD. I have gotten over areas with my 250cc that my friends Kodiak 400cc couldn't because his front tires not both having power... One would spin but not the other.

just talked to a guy who put stage 1 kit on his and he said the differance was unreal. He gained 8 to 9 mph on top end and lots more power. stage one was rejetting pipe k&n and clutch kit.... so just realy pipe and clutch kit.... because air filter on explore breaths a lot better anyway..
