98 Sportsman 500. Gears won't shift....
#2
i imagine it is hung up in gear because the clutch is engaging the belt making it hard to shift out of gear. The drive clutch is pulling on the belt-- could be the wrong belt, or a drive unit that needs some lubrication (dry). Can you take the belt box off and check it?

Your clutch sounds like it is sticking when engaging in on the belt. Has the bike been laid up for a while as it seems like your clutch is not fully releasing. Take off the belt box cover and look at your clutch with the engine off. You should be able rock the bike without your drive clutch turning. You could also have a broken spring in your drive clutch.

Sounds to me like your bearing could be back, or your spring could be wear or broken

Did you get the problem fixed? Mine did the same thing but quit when I put a new belt on. Just wondering if maybe I have a weak clutch spring the new belt fixed it temporarliy until it gets worn or if the belt was the problem.

If it's has an EBS clutch I have a fix for it. I'll try to post it later as it will be somewhat lengthy. Don't have time to right now(should be working instead of typing:-)
