My new to me scrambler 500 was running fine than started missing real bad when you give it gas. Does it sitting steel or under a load. I changed the fuel filter and added some different gas, but still no luck. Any ideas?

is it acting the same way as it would if reverse if you didnt push the override in? just wondering maybe the override is starting to mess up? or is it more a carb issue where its missing from lack of fuel.

No its spitting and sputtering. Its gotta be the carb or electrical the way it sounds. How do you get to the plugs and wires?

As stendori said, is it similar to being in reverse without the override pushed? Mine was doing that when water would hit the connector to the reverse safety swich. At first, I waterproofed the connector, but then later I just disconnected the switch altogether.

no its not like the reverse. Its just coughing and sputtering. You can be in neutral and give it full throttle and it will cut out real bad.

you have a clogged pilot jet. the jet that controls the fuel from idle to 1/4 throttle

remove the carb and clean out both jets. (main and pilot) its actually a good idea to bump the pilot jet up a size while you have it apart...stock is #40 i bumped mine to 42.5 and it made a big difference in throttle response...

No i haven't somebody else told me to check that. It is a 2006 with very low hours. Never thought about valves.

No I cleaned the filter. I put some carb cleaner in the tank and that seems to have made it worse.
