Default yfz 450 vs 450r

i was at my buddys house today, and his cousin swore up down left and right that his new 450r could smoke my buddies yfz450..........the yfz left the honda in the dust, i would say 4 or 5 bike lengths at 100 yards, people put too much faith in hondas

Honda is known more for their reliability than for their speed. I had a Honda 450R for 2 weeks that I bought to take as a spare bike when we went to our West Virginia trip. It had an Athena big bore kit, a DMC pipe (that I hated), K&N filter & open air box top, and it would get smoked by the all-stock-but-piped YFZ 450's. BUT, it had Holeshot HD's on it and ITP C-Series rims and out of 13 four wheelers my 450R was the only one that didn't have any breakdowns or flat tires. Everybody else had multiple flat tires, electrical problems, broken a-arms, you name it they had it. The guy I sold the 450R to tried everything he could to beat those YFZ's without spending too much money, and he never could do it with that setup.

I'm not brand loyal by any means. I had a 400EX that I absolutely loved and now I ride a yfz450. When I was looking around at 450's here is what I came up with.
1.) YFZ looked much better than that weird thing honda has going. (Preference)
2.) YFZ was much more comfortable for me to ride. (Preference)
3.) Honda more reliable. (Can't back that. Out of my experience with them 1 450R down 0 yfz)
4.) Power will come down to rider.

With those things and a few others in mind I came to the conclusion that when it comes between the two it's totally preference.

Also, if that yfz smoked it that bad either it's a case of bad driver or somethings wrong with it. They should be pretty equivalent.

If you ride it hard it's going to break. I don't care what it is, it's only a matter of time so let me say again, its preference. You want a 450r get a 450r you want a yfz get a yfz you'll be happy with whichever you buy and if your like most people (and my bro above as you see) whichever you buy is the best and the other sucks.

Well, the YFZ's didn't "smoke" me, I should have used a different word, but they would beat me by about a bike length every time. To listen to all the trash talking I had to hear you would think they flat-out smoked me. On the open stretches they would pull ahead some but I was right there with them. I like the looks of the Yamaha better, but I will say I liked the comfort, the suspension, and the braking of the Honda better.
