Default 1997 Polaris 400 Scrambler advice

Hello,

I am new to the forum. Just bought a 1997 Polaris Scrambler 400 4wd a few weeks back.

My rig has a new top end 40 0ver, straight pipe, 260 jet, I have opened up the factory airbox a lot.

The scrambler seems a lot faster, than when I bought it bone stock.
It will stand straight up off idle with me riding, and I weigh 270 lbs.
I would like opinions on a pipe and silencer, clutch springs, carb jetting ideas, and any other fairly inexpensive mod ideas that anyone has.

What about a custom bent straight pipe, a supertrapp muffler, with tuneable discs?

For your 400 to run up to it potential you really need to start from scratch.Either get you the RcR stage1 kit or get you an HPD pipe and clutch kit,Aaen pipe and kit or a Dynoport and a clutch spring.

Hey,
i got a 96 scrambler this past winter (first wheeler ever) and i installed a heelclicker kit which is nice because you can adjust how you want the wheeler to ride. i do have a question tho. mine got a new top and bottom end and i've replaced alot of things on it, but the heelclicker kit and a K&N air filter are the only things performance wise i've done.
you said yours stands up off throttle, mine sure doesnt! what do you mean you "opened up the airbox"? stock jet is 250, will the 260 make that much of a diff?
thanks

My scrambler had a 230 main jet, which I think is factory.
I removed the lid to the airbox, and also cut the front out of it.
I also removed the front piece which necked down to allow minimal air flow.

With the modified airbox, and no muffler, the scrambler was running pretty lean.
The 260 jet seemed to richen the fuel mixture pretty good, and seemed to add quite a bit of power.

Thinking about running a hot seat performance clutch to see if that does the trick... any other ideas u ppl think that could help me? ...oh and no its not cause im to big only wiegh 180

With the pipe you are using go with a polaris or HPD brown primary spring HPD violet secondary spring set at 2-2.This wont be on the money but close. You cant really dial in te clutching for the FMF pipe because they cant tell you the exact rpm range it runs in.
